Bathroom Renovation Update

Per Harold, the new shower door is in and looks good. They will return on Monday for the final touch-ups and then they will be done - Yeah! Can't wait to see it, but having too much fun with my new little grandson right now to want to hurry home.

Update: They decided to wait until I return to finish-up, that way I can inspect it all.

:-( The Bathroom Wasn't Finished!

Well, due to a snaffoo with the shower door, they weren't able to finish today. The door that the contractor bought had a hinge that was 5" from the door edge (Note: only a 24" doorway), leaving only 19" to get thru the door. Sorry, but a person my size is not getting thru a 19" doorway, not even sideways., plus the top bar was too low for Harold to get under, he had to duck his head and he even had to turn sideways to try to get thru the door and it wasn't easy for him.
So, this door will be taken out tomorrow and as soon as they can find one with a piano hinge and NO top bar (like our old one) it will be installed. They are going to do another coat of paint to smooth it all out. The shoe molding is in. The grout will be sealed once the door is installed. They will do this while I am gone, but should be done by Friday at the latest. I do have to note that I love the new flooring. I wasn't sure when I picked it out if it would look good with the tile, but it is perfect. It is all coming together wonderfully.
They did get the toilet reinstalled and even hung the picture I wanted above it (moving it from the hall bathroom to our master bathroom). It looks even nicer in here with the new blue paint.

Day 15 - Bathroom Renovation

Well, there have been a few days more of work done and I forgot to take pics, but yesterday they got the flooring in, so I snapped this shot today before they got started on finishing up everything. They are to finish today - YEAH!
Today the shower door goes in, the shoe molding down, towel racks and such reinstalled (new ones), paint touched-up and cleaning everything and they are done!!!!!! I will put pics up tonight of the finished product.

Day 11 - Bathroom Renovation

The painting began on Day 11, July 6th. Still have to get use to having color on the walls in there - LOL! You can't tell here, but the paint color matches, little specks of lt. blue in the tile. So far I am very pleased with how it is turning out. They have to paint the ceiling and trim, put in the shower floor and the vinyl on the bathroom floor, put up towel racks and such and touch-up and clean. They are here today and plan to return tomorrow and hope to finish tomorrow. If not, they will return on Monday and do the touch-ups and cleaning and it will be done - Yeah! (Note: my day countdown is based on the days of actual work, not # of days since work started, which was on June 16th - they have had to go to another job up in No. VA on occasion due to delays in it, due to problems with vendors sending them the wrong thing and a hold up on getting a dishwasher that would fit and the lady liked). So taking that into consideration, I think they have made great progress. They don't hurry as they are more concerned with the quality of the work vs getting it done quickly, which makes me happy - I'd rather it done right, rather than shoddy (especially for what I am paying - Ugh!)

Bathroom Renovation - Days 8 & 10

Well, I skipped a few days of the progress, but here are Days 8 (June 30th)and 10(today). The 2 main guys had to go up to No. VA to work on the project there again, so their boss came in and did some work. Working alone, he is not as fast as the other 2 guys and he gets lots of phone calls (more problems with the No. VA project) and has to run errands, so he wasn't able to accomplish as much work, as I know they would have liked him to, but they made up for it today. They ran out of tile on Day 8, so they were unable to finish. Chris brought in the tile the next day and finished it off, except he then ran out of the bullnose (trim tiles). Darren and Dallas returned today, cleaned off the tile and finished off the trim work and started grouting. It is amazing what a difference the grout makes. Without it everything looks uneven between the tiles, it will never be perfect since the walls and the tub are not perfectly straight, but once the grout is in, it hides a multitude of sins (LOL!). It is all coming together. Monday they will finish off the grout/caulking and then clean-up good in the bathroom, pour the concrete into the shower floor and while it is setting they will pull the toilet out and the remaining vinyl around it up and then put the new vinyl down and replace the toilet and then coverthe floor with plastic and then put the tiles down in the shower (white 2"x2"), grout/caulk the floor and then start painting and replace the moulding around the base of the walls and paint it and all the trim work around the window, put up the new towel rack, toilet paper holder, hand towel ring and shower door. They are hoping to have everything done by Wednesday. I can hardly wait. It is looking soooooo nice!

Days 4 & 5 of Bathroom Renovation

They came on Fri. and again on Sat. to work on the tile some more. Not much left to finish the shower and then they can start on the tile around the tub.

Day 4

Day 5
They did the inside of the shower doorway and you can see the doorway is done,
now to redo the sheetrock and then put the bullnose on and then floor and grouting. The floor will be white 2"x2" tiles.

Day 3 of Bathroom Renovation

Well, Day 3 (June 22) and the rubber mat is down and the concrete wall board completed and the tile is starting to go up. They would have gotten more done but they were having problems with their super expensive, brand new tile cutter, so they finally had to give up. They had to go to the other job in Alexandria today and tomorrow, but will be back Fri. and will come on Sat. to get the tile work completed - Yeah! Then next week will be the flooring and painting and that should go quick, so it should be done next week.

Bathroom Renovation - Day 2

The concrete wall boards (can't remember what they called them) are up in the shower and around tub and the sections of flooring that needed to be replaced have been replaced with plywood (vs the original pressed wood - which you see on the remaining floor). Harold and I went out and picked the paint color on Sat. and the owner of the company dropped off the tiles, corner shelves, mortar and grout today. They return tomorrow to put in the rubber pan, the rest of the concrete wall boards and then the tiling will start once they finish all the prepping for the shower.

The Master Bath Renovation has begun! Day 1

Yesterday, they started on the renovation of our master bathroom. We have not been able to use the shower for over a year now. I am so glad to finally be getting it done. The shower is being retiledand we are having the tile replaced around the tub to match and new vinyl flooring and the wals painted. Should take about 2 weeks. They were unable to come today as their truck broke down and he is getting it repaired today and they will be back tomorrow and then working Sat. to make up for today. We wanted to get the front bathroom flooring replaced and walls painted, but that won't fit into the budget with the upcoming trip to KS and TX.

Here are some before and after shots of Day 1.

Well, I didn't realize I had not taken before pics until he started demoing,
so here is one of him while he is bashing out the walls.
No more tile!
